Ants, bees, beetles, crickets, hoppers and termites. Any terrestrial insect which lands on the water immediately panics and thrashes wildly. After drowning, they usually get waterlogged and sink. Falls of terrestrial insects can be a high percentage of the food chain for trout and other game fish. This may occur even on waters that are rich in aquatic life. Terrestrial insect falls become even more important in barren waters such as run-off streams and alpine lakes.
