The Story of Sage X Series Fly Rods &

The Fly Fishing Shop received the first Sage X Spey Rod that came off the assembly line. All our shop guides & key employees bought an X-Rod out of the first round of production. X is a series that is so far advanced that a lot of shops haven't caught on yet. X rods are fairly easy to cast, but you had better be in the mood to study and practice to get the full measure out of them. As you learn, you will find that the less power you apply, the more line speed you will acquire. You will be amazed at how accurate these rods can be,...if you let them. Most anglers learn that having your fly in the X-act center of a trout's feeding lane is a primary factor for success.

Sage builds single-hand rods in the X series from 3-weight through 11-weight, with the 590-4 X being most popular trout rod.

If you traveled the world, you would find that mature trout run from only a couple of ounces to over forty pounds. Trout from half a pound to ten-pounds are fairly common. If you count Asia's mighty Taimen as a trout, then trout can exceed 200-pounds. The Sage X Series of single hand rods has models from #3 to #11-weight, and by the definitions above they could all be trout rods. This also proves that your trout fishing adventures are only limited by your imagination, and your expense account.

In Oregon trout range from tiny cutthroats in mountain streams to behemoth browns and bull trout in giant lakes. They can all be caught with flies. Of course to get the really big ones you might need to use a fly as big as the mountain trout.

When most most fly anglers in the west think about trout, they are scheming on fish that are less than six pounds, and most are less than four pounds. Most of these fish eat a lot of insects and a few smaller bait fish. Many of these fish live in rivers that are less than a hundred feet wide. Most casts are less than fifty feet. Average size flies are #4 to #20. The most used flies are #6 to #16. The most popular rods are 9' - #5. In this category it would be hard to beat a Sage 590-4X. This marvelous rod is agile and incredibly accurate.
