Ultimate Small-Fly Two-Hander?
Two-Hand steelhead rods are getting lighter and lighter. Where anglers fished 9-weights a few years ago, now they are fishing 7/8-weights and even 5/6-weights. A rod that entered the stable as an early-summer rod for the Deschutes, now finds favor as a high-water rod for "winter-runs" on the Sandy. But even though this rod throws Skagit heads large enough to please winter steelhead, its focus will always be summer steelhead on rivers such as the Deschutes, John Day and Grande Ronde.
The G. Loomis 1445/6-4G may be the ultimate small-fly summer steelhead rod. It has been on of the favorite rods for me and my clan for several years. It is especially awesome as a waking fly stick.
