TFO BVK Series are the flagship design of one of the greatest rod designers of all time: Bernard Victor Krey (Lefty Kreh). In lefty's passing they are being closed out, a perfect chance to buy a premium fly rod at a great price. Get them while they last.
We were aware of the TFO BVK series as soon as they came out of initial production. Last summer we had a young female employee who wanted to get into fly fishing, and she asked, "What is the best trout rod for the money?" We said, "Try a 590 BVK." Then while teaching her to cast, I bought one for myself as a client rod, but I really like using it myself.
BVKs are fast action rods designed to excel in presentation and distance. The rich translucent olive blanks are topped with matching braided carbon fiber reel seats, TFO's exclusive Tactical Series stripping guides, ultra lightweight chromium-impregnated stainless snake guides and Flor grade cork grips that are comfortably contoured and uniquely contrasted. Available in 3- to 12-weight.
Pictured above is Mark Bachmann with a snook caught at the mouth of the Belize River in November of 2016. The outfit of choice is a 9'-#9 BVK rod and #3 BVK reel. This outfit became the favorite for many different situations: casting big flies into the mangroves, catching tarpon to 20-pounds from jungle lagoons, and fishing spooky bonefish at long range on shallow water flats. Able assistance was given by guide John Moore from Belize River Lodge.
Here, Patty Barnes hucks a long cast to bonefish feeding on a shallow flat. Some of these fish are very spooky and require very long casts with very delicate presentations. The bonefish is pictured below.
Oversize TFO proprietary Tactical Series Guides are standard on all BVK rods which also feature an Extension Butt. These rods are meant for larger fish and for longer casting. These extra large high performance guides are designed to eliminate friction while also withstanding the most rigorous fishing conditions, all the while providing the ultimate in weight savings. The guides feature super hard-chrome anodized, stainless steel inserts pressed into a machined, hard-anodized, stainless steel frame for extreme durability in both fresh and saltwater.
We have been testing the sweet new easy to cast 7130 BVK Spey rod. We received the full set of three new BVKs and will keep you informed on our thoughts as to how well they perform.
