Steelhead Counts at Sherars Falls on The Deschutes River
(charts provided by PGE)
Summer Steelhead Migration
According to my record keeping in the 1980's steelhead trickled over Sherars Falls until the water temperature in the Deschutes River dropped to the low fifties. Then they ascended the falls in big numbers. Some years this started around September 20, other years in late-October. The chart above shows October, November and December for peak migration. Peak counts at the Pelton fish trap normally occur in December and January.
