      Simms Waypoints Sling Packs

As I get older, my gear is often chosen not for new fancy features, but by how little it will tend annoy me. I have little patience with tackle that distracts me from fishing or observing the world around me. Things that pinch, or irritate my body, make goofy noises, have little dangly gadgets that get hung up in vegetation, have zippers that get stuck, or otherwise weren't well tested, are ushered out of my life. A year ago I bought a Simms Waypoints Sling Pack, and I like it.

All my experience has been with the small size sling pack. I use it for fishing and guiding on local streams. It is pretty close to perfect for this kind of fishing. Our local streams come out of the Mt. Hood National Forest and flow into the Sandy, Hood, White, and Clackamas Rivers. Fishing these streams involves a lot of hiking. The small size Simms Waypoints Sling Packs holds all of the essential items for this kind of fishing. Often you are driving while fishing, and are in and out of your car a lot. These sling pack are easy and quick on-and-off.

Sling packs in general are easy on your body by distributing weight where it is most comfortable. Most fly fishing gear is lightweight. But if you add a water bottle or a handgun, weight distribution becomes important. Waypoints packs are more streamlined in the brush than are fishing vests. They also allow more freedom of upper-body movement. Casting is easy with one of these packs on your back. Access to equipment is more time consuming than a vest, but I am adapting to it, because the added comfort of the pack makes it reasonable.
