    7 Days, 2 Instructors, 5 Class Sessions, 12 Fishing Sessions.
    This is the most complete Deschutes Summer Steelhead Spey School offered for 2019. It features 7-days on the water during the peak of the steelhead season, with the most sophisticated camp and the most experienced set of instructors available. Mark Bachmann, Patty Barnes and, Tony Barnes are your hosts with a combined steelhead fly fishing experience foundation of over 100 years. A big, powerful, jet boat gives you easy access to many, many miles of prime water. Arrive September 11 and stay until September 18.

    What You Will Need To Bring

    Your launch point is Mack's Canyon Campground, You will be picked up at Mack's Canyon and be transported to camp by jet boat. We would recommend staying in Maupin, Oregon the night before your trip at: Imperial Company

    How to get to Mack's Canyon

    PhD School Itinerary
    This is meant to be the finest summer steelhead Spey finishing school available. It covers basic two-hand fly rod casting techniques, and specialized casts for Scandi floating and Skagit sinking tips. It also covers techniques for fishing waking flies, and wet flies with both floating line and deep sinking tips.

    Day One: Arrive at Mack's Canyon at noon, move into camp, lunch, orientation PowerPoint, free time, basic casting demonstration, evening fishing, late dinner

    Day Two: Get up before dawn, continental breakfast, fishing until shade leaves the water, brunch, Single-Spey / Snake Roll casting class, free time, early dinner, evening fishing until dark.

    Day Three: Get up before dawn, continental breakfast, fishing until shade leaves the water, brunch, Fly Speed Fishing Class, free time, early dinner, evening fishing until dark.

    Day Four: (Middle Day) Get up before dawn, continental breakfast, fishing until shade leaves the water, brunch, Double Spey / Snap-T Casting Class, free time, early dinner, evening fishing until dark.

    Day Five: Get up before dawn, continental breakfast, fishing until shade leaves the water, brunch, Sinking Tip Line Skagit Casting class, free time, early dinner, evening fishing until dark.

    Day Six: Get up before dawn, continental breakfast, fishing until shade leaves the water, brunch, Waking Fly Fishing class, free time, early dinner, evening fishing until dark.

    Day Seven: Get up before dawn, continental breakfast, fishing until shade leaves the water, brunch, pack up gear, go back to Mack's Canyon.

    The itinerary may vary slightly, depending on water, weather and fishing conditions. As always there will be emphasis on catching fish within the current conditions.
