2019 GGACC Spey-O-Rama and Sandy River Spey Clave on Back-to-Back Weekends

For the first time ever, the Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club (GGACC) in San Francisco, California has partnered with the Fly Fishing Shop in Welches, Oregon to present back-to-back Spey Casting Events on the West Coast.The 16th Annual Spey-O-Rama, the World Championship of Spey Casting, will be held at the famous Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club in San Francisco, California on Friday April 26 through Sunday April 28, 2019.Then on the following weekend, the 19th Annual Sandy River Spey Clave hosted by the Fly Fishing Shop in Welches, Oregon will be held on Friday May 3 and Saturday May 4, 2019 in Sandy River, Oregon, which is located near Portland, Oregon.

This back-to-back scheduling came through collaboration between GGACC President Willy George and the Fly Fishing Shop owner Mark Bachmann.Willy George, who facilitated the new scheduling and moved SOR a week later, said, “I encourage all of our Spey-O-Rama competitors, who last year represented 10 countries around the world, to plan on attending both events if at all possible.Just keep your bags packed and head up the West Coast from San Francisco to Portland.”Mark Bachmann, who moved his event two weeks earlier, remarked that, “Having the best Spey casting competitors in the world attend the Sandy River Spey Clave will be a total thrill.I also hope that many of our Sandy River Spey Clave folks take this opportunity to head down to San Francisco the prior weekend to experience all the Spey-O-Rama activities.”

The GGACC Jimmy Green Spey-O-Rama, recognized as the World Championship of Spey Casting, is held each year at the Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club in San Francisco, California.In April 2018, a record number of 66 competitors, representing 10 countries, competed in the Men’s, Women’s, and Men’s Senior Divisions.More information is available at https://www.ggacc.org/spey-o-rama

The Sandy River Spey Clave, also known as “the Woodstock of Spey Casting,” is held at the Oxbow Regional Park in Sandy River, Oregon.This is a gathering of anglers interested in two-handed fly rod fishing. It is a chance to cast with and learn from some of the best Spey casters and steelhead anglers in the world. In 2018, this event featured a new level of 50/50 male & female instructors who taught the on-the-water casting programs. More information is available at www.FlyFishUSA.com
